Graduate students and post-docs from across the CIC are strongly encouraged to enroll in summer courses offered by the which is preparing the next generation of scientists and engineers for research at the frontiers of petascale computing-enabled science and engineering.

The three courses offered this summer will give students skills to leverage the power of cutting-edge computational resources. Courses will be delivered to several sites, including many CIC universities, using high-definition videoconferencing technology.

This summer’s courses are:

- , July 6–9, 2010. Offered on-site at these CIC campuses: National Center for Supercomputing Applications, Urbana, Illinois; Northwestern University; Pennsylvania State University; University of Minnesota Supercomputing Institute.

- , July 26–30, 2010. The instructors for this course are Geoffrey C. Fox and Judy Qiu, both of Indiana University. It will be offered on-site at these CIC campuses: Electronic Visualization Laboratory, University of Illinois at Chicago; Indiana University; Michigan State University, Pennsylvania State University; University of Iowa, Iowa City; University of Minnesota Supercomputing Institute.

- , August 2–6, 2010. One of the instructors for this course is Wen-Mei W. Hwu, professor of electrical and computer engineering and principal investigator of the CUDA Center of Excellence, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. It will be offered on-site at the following CIC campuses: National Center for Supercomputing Applications, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; Northwestern University; Ohio Supercomputer Center, Ohio State University; University of Iowa; University of Michigan.

The CIC is a partner in the Virtual School, providing funding and support. The Virtual School is also supported by the Great Lakes Consortium for Petascale Computation (GLCPC), the National Science Foundation (NSF), the State of Illinois, and Internet2 Commons.
