Researchers and scholars at CIC universities have a powerful new tool to analyze the citation network between books and the wider world of scholarly research through the Book Citation Index in the Web of Science. Made available through the CIC, the enhanced Web of Science tool optimizes the powerful features of citation navigation by bringing together scholarly book, journal, and conference proceedings literature.

Scholars in the social sciences and humanities who publish primarily in books are familiar with the lack of quality tools for effective citation tracking. The newly released Book Citation Index, integrated into Thomson鈥檚 Web of Science, provides citation counts and cited reference searching for over 30,000 books in the social sciences, humanities, and the natural sciences. Recently licensed collectively by the CIC libraries, the Book Citation Index begins coverage in 2005 and adds 10,000 titles per year to the database.

The Web of Knowledge platform allows users to create and analyze custom data sets and eases searching, writing, and bibliography creation.  With the addition of the Book Citation Index, users can:

  • Analyze the citation network between books and the wider world of scholarly and scientific research
  • Connect to institutional resources with direct links to library catalogs and eBook collections
  • Access more complete social sciences and humanities coverage as well as critical coverage in the sciences
  • Measure the contribution of books in specific disciplines and identify potential collaborators
Authors from CIC universities have 2 million published items in the Web of Science.
