Fellowship opportunities available through collaborative partnerships with the Smithsonian Institution and the Associated Colleges of the Midwest

The Big Ten 91视频 and the Smithsonian Institution invite fellowship applications for one-year fellowships to support research in residence at Smithsonian Institution facilities. Fellowships carry a stipend of $32,700.  All fields of study that are actively pursued by the museums and research organizations of the Smithsonian Institution are eligible.

How It Works
Under this fellowship program, the Smithsonian Institution and the Fellow鈥檚 university share the cost of support. Students enrolled at Big Ten 91视频 member universities apply directly via the Smithsonian鈥檚 Online Application Appointments (SOLAA). From 2017 forward, it will be possible for more than one award to be granted per campus. Fellowships awarded in future years could number as many as two dozen or more in one cycle.

Application Instructions
See Application Guide for full details on how to apply. The application materials must be submitted electronically between September 6, 2016, and December 1, 2016, at 5 PM through .

Faculty Fellows Program to Diversify the Professoriate

The Faculty Fellows Program to Diversify the Professoriate is a collaborative effort of the Big Ten 91视频 and the Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM) that aims to recruit candidates interested in pursuing a career in undergraduate teaching and scholarship at a liberal arts institution.

With generous support from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, this program will place 30 new and/or recent PhD and terminal Master鈥檚 degree recipients in the humanities, humanistic social sciences, and the arts into tenure-track positions at ACM member colleges over a period of 5-6 years.

Faculty who are hired into the selected tenure-track positions at an ACM college, and who are eligible to be designated as a Faculty Fellow, will have a reduced teaching load for the first year and second year of their tenure track (or an extended fourth-year leave, at the discretion of the college). Successful candidates will also receive other support, including campus-based mentoring along with consortial workshops to provide the Fellows a rich introduction to teaching, scholarship, and professional development at residential liberal arts colleges.

Eligibility for Faculty Fellowships
The Fellows Program is open to all qualified candidates and encourages applications from individuals:

  • from underrepresented groups in the professoriate, including African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, other Pacific Islanders, and/or first颅-generation college students;
  • who have followed non颅traditional pathways to college due to exceptional talent and motivation in the face of adversity, such as societal, economic, or academic disadvantages; and
  • who have demonstrated a commitment to applying and including diverse backgrounds and perspectives to learning, scholarship, service and leadership in the academy.
